8 General Guidelines for Fit Pregnancy

 

* Avoid ballistic movement, rapid changes in direction and exercises that require extremes of joint motions.

* Include warm ups and cool downs.

* Avoid an anaerobic (breathless) pace.

* Strenuous activity should not exceed 30 minutes; 15 to 20 minute intervals are recommended.


*Discourage vigorous exercise or exertion in high heat and humidity, with high pollution levels.

*Frequent change of positions may be required to avoid supine hypertensive syndrome, but be careful of sudden changes in posture to reduce possible orthostatic hypotension.

* Avoid exercises performed while lying on your back after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

* Avoid prolonged periods of standing, especially in the third trimester.
